The Founder’s Run has arrived, a tour that celebrates the first car race in Portugal
The Caramulo Museum will carry out the first edition of the Founder’s Run by Cartrack, a ride aimed at pre-war cars and motorcycles (produced until 1939) that celebrates the golden age of motorsport and, At the same time, the 120 years of the first automobile race in the Iberian Peninsula, which took place in 1902, between Figueira da Foz and Lisbon, in order to assess the interest of Portuguese society in the car phenomenon.
The tour goes to the road from 14 to 16 October and its route begins on Saturday, in Figueira da Foz, with a chicane and immediate departure towards the event Leiria On Wheels, followed by a passage through Alcobaça and ending in Torres Vedras. On Sunday, cars head south to the gardens of the Casino Estoril, where they will be on display for the public’s delight.
According to the organization “Pre-war models portray a time when cars and motorcycles were produced without limitations, with high elegance and exuberance, and great attention to detail and materials, which gave them a presence wherever they went. It is a special era that deserves to be seen and celebrated”. He adds “Despite its beauty and historical interest, cars like this are no longer seen on roads today, not even in motor events, so this tour is now more important than ever because it gives a rare opportunity to both owners to ride them and the public to enjoy them”.
This authentic time travel is organized by the Caramulo Museum, in partnership with Pre-War Racers Portugal, Portuguese Club of Antique Cars, Association of Antique Car Clubs of the North, Clube de Automóveis Antigos de Castelo Branco, Old Car Club of Costa Azul and Old Car Club of Figueira da Foz and with the support of Cartrack, Cauny, Center Tourism, BPI – Fundação la Caixa and the municipalities of Figueira da Foz, Leiria, Alcobaça, Torres Vedras and Cascais.
